Taichi

What is Tai Chi?

"Tai" means "Grand", and "Chi" means "Ultimate". With Tai Chi, a practitioner can obtain "Chi" (ultimate energy) and live as a better and stronger being. Tai Chi is an art form based on martial application; its philosophy is closely related to the theory of martial arts. A great martial artist is one who is strong both mentally and physically. One must be at peace with himself and live in harmony with others and nature. The union of the cosmic aspects of Yin (passive) and Yang (active) forms the basis of all reality.

Tai Chi is meaningful, peaceful, graceful, beautiful, powerful.

Originally developed for self-defense, Tai Chi has evolved into a graceful form of exercise that's nowadays is more often used for stress reduction and a variety of other health conditions. Described as meditation in motion, Tai Chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements, performed in a slow and focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing.

Tai chi has many different styles. Each of them may subtly emphasize various Tai Chi principles and methods. There are variations within each style. Some may focus on health maintenance, while others focus on the martial arts aspect of Tai Chi.
